WHAT IS RAW SILK ?

 Silk is collected from the cocoon of the silk worm by dipping the cocoon in hot water. ​The silk directly collected from the cocoon containing (sericin), a protein secretion from the silk worm, which gets removed after

 processing with soap to produce pure silk.

how raw silk made?

Sericulture. This is the term used to describe the process of gathering the silkworms and harvesting the cocoon to collect the materials. 

• 1 .Thread extraction:

Extracting raw silk starts by cultivating the silkworms on mulberry leaves. Once the worms start pupating in their cocoons, these are dissolved in boiling water in order for individual long fibres to be extracted and fed into the spinning reel.

• 2. dyeing:

In yarn dyeing, the yarns are dyed first before the fabric manufacturing stage. The yarn dyeing happens in hanks or in package dyeing. Package dyeing is a method where yarns are wound on perforated cones placed in a dye vessel. The dye solution is then alternatively pushed inside out and vice versa.

3.spinning

The process for producing single yarn out of discontinuous filament of cocoon is known as Spinning. The process by which silkworm produce cocoons is also spinning. cocoons are spun since they are opening mouthed and not composed of continuous filament.

4.weaving

Weaving is done on the fly shuttle pit looms. The weaver interlaces the silk threads of weft and warp. The shuttle passes through the opens formed when the pedal is operated to interlock the threads of warp and the weft. Once the shuttle is passed, the suspended sley is pulled to form the weave.

5.finishing

Finishing is the final step in the silk manufacturing process. It includes all the operations that occur after weaving and give the silk its final and unique appearance. The fabric undergoes scouring to remove any sericin on the yarn, thus achieving a soft, shiny fabric that is receptive to dye penetration.
